Christleton Sports Centre’s new 59.20 kWp Solar PV System

Christleton Sports Centre’s new 59.20 kWp Solar PV System

In November last year, we returned to Christleton Sports Centre to install a second Solar PV System for their sports centre due to them being impressed with the work of our first solar PV installation. The new system was built on the roof of the swimming pool which is one of the most used facilities at the sports centre. The PV system consisted of a huge 160 x Longi Solar, LR4-60HPH-370M solar panels with half the amount of P801 optimizers so they could connect to two solar panels each. We also installed a 3-phase SolarEdge 50K Manager inverter inside the building wired up to the system on the roof to complete the system.

All together the installed DC power of this system is 59.20 kWp which if you combine the power with the original system installed it is nearly reaching 160kWp. The system is estimated to produce 45.54 MWh of energy every year which will mainly be used to power to the swimming pool facilities such as the pool itself, lights, showers, etc. The system will save around 10.61 tonnes of Co2 emissions every calendar year, which is equivalent to 487 trees being planted.

Northwich Memorial Court – 101.70 kWp Solar PV System

Northwich Memorial Court – 101.70 kWp Solar PV System

Towards the end of last year, we visited Northwich to install another Solar PV System for Brio Leisure at their Northwich Memorial Court campus. The 101.70 kWp system consisted of 226 x Longi Solar, LR4-72HPH-450M solar panels which were separated into 5 different sections on the roof of the leisure centre meaning that everywhere on the roof was now covered in solar panels. There are also 113 x P950 Optimizers which connects to 2 solar panels per one as well as 2 x SolarEdge 33.3K inverters as it is a large commercial system. It is estimated to produce 79.09 MWh of energy every year on top of what they already produce from the original system they got installed by a different company a few years back. They are not just having financial benefits from the installation as they will also be having environmental benefits because of the huge amount of Co2 emissions being saved. 18.43 tonnes to exact which is equivalent to over 800 trees being planted.

We owe a massive thanks to Qwest Services for their help in this installation as they helped our team retrieve the equipment on the roof by using a crane to lift them up on the sports centre.

The reason brio had this installation was to power the large amounts of gym equipment that will be running throughout the day as well as their huge swimming facility which will need the power to run the pool and all other general equipment outside the pool such as lights and showers. This installation will also save huge amounts of money on their monthly energy bills due to the recent rise in the UK.

The image shows two pie charts of the system production and consumption over a calendar year.

Solar Car Port at Archbishop Temple High School

Solar Car Port at Archbishop Temple High School

This 23.36 kWp PV system is our first car port installation of the year. A solar car port provides cover for vehicles when parked, whilst generating solar energy from the sun. This clean electricity can then be used to power the site of installation or to charge up electric vehicles. They can cover many different designs of car parks which enable them to blend in with the surrounding environment. They can also be customised to have gutters to harvest rainfall. Solar car ports can increase land value and create revenue opportunities for site operators from EV charge-points, branding and advertising. They will be become more common in the near future due to the rise in the usage of electric vehicles and the new rules coming into play in a few years.

This system consists of 64 x Longi Solar, LR4-60HPH-365Ms solar panels as well as 32 x p801 optimizers meaning that for every two panels installed is connected to one optimizer. To finish off the system we installed 1 x solar edge 16k inverter which was installed in an outer power block next to the car port so that it would enable us to connect it to the PV system. The block will be closed off to the children of the school to keep them out of danger.

Archbishop Temple High School

Archbishop Temple Church of England High School is a high performing secondary school in Preston, Lancashire. We they 782 pupils, aged 11-16, and they aim to provide an outstanding education based firmly on their core values of faith, nurture and service.

Their pupils receive a first-class education and their exam results are consistently among the best in the country (in 2019 83% of our students achieved a good grade in five or more subjects, including English and Maths). They are one of only nine schools in England selected as a lead hub in Modern Foreign Languages.

However, they aim to achieve much more than that. The school is a vibrant and exciting place to be. There is never a dull moment and we are proud of the extra-curricular provision that is available in school, as well as the exemplary pastoral care they offer their pupils. As a school, they aim to be a caring place, and work hard to ensure that they show their care to those who are members of the school, but also to people in the wider community. Their staff and pupils raise many hundreds of pounds each year to support good causes both locally, nationally and internationally.

Being a Church of England School is a core part of their ethos. They express their faith in regular acts of worship, but also by providing an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere where they make a commitment to each young person to try to support them to be the best they can be.

Ellesmere Port Sport Village 306.61 kWp Solar PV System

Ellesmere Port Sport Village 306.61 kWp Solar PV System

This 306.61 kWp is our largest solar PV installation of the year so far and looking to top this as the year goes on. We have entered this installation into 250k+ project category at the Energy Effiicency Awards 2022 and hoping it can come out on top. The system consists of a huge 689 x Longi Solar, LR4-72HPH-445M solar panels, 345 x P950 optimizers and 6 x SolarEdge 33.3K inverters which is used to power the gym and swimming pool facilities.

No matter how big or small your business is there are benefits from solar energy for everyone!. If you have a good range of roof space on your commercial property installing a solar PV system can be an extremely good investment as you will make money back in the long run as well as save money on your current electricity bills. It’s not just beneficial financially, you can also help the environment by reducing your carbon footprint.

Another positive about solar energy is that you can store your energy and then use it when it is suitable for you. an example of when to use solar energy could be at a time of a power cut which has happened a lot in different parts of the country this week due to storm Eunice. So this can give bussinesses with a solar PV system on their site an advantage over other competitors without a solar PV system as they could be without power for a number of days depending on how bad the weather is.

Why Should Other Schools Go Solar?

Save money on electricity bills – Schools can make huge savings on their electricity bills, allowing them to spend money on educational and recreational programmes.

Helps the environment – Solar PV system helps the environment by reducing the school’s Co2 emissions. Hoole primary school saves 16.98 tonnes every calendar year. Do you want to help with climate change?

Education to students – Being able to communicate to the pupils the benefits of sustainability through a working example of renewable technology in their own school will provide more direct engagement, particularly in the subjects of geography, science, design and technology and IT. This can also help to inspire the wider community to take action to address climate change.

Hoole Church of England Primary School

Hoole Church of England Primary School is a two form entry school with around 380 children aged 4-11, serving the community of Hoole on the outskirts of Chester. They work at the heart of our community and have a close working relationship with the parents and families of the children. Parents and Carers are regularly informed about their children’s progress and achievements and are encouraged to meet with staff to discuss their child’s progress, celebrate their achievements and liaise on any concerns.

They have fourteen classes at Hoole. Their school is well resourced with computers, interactive whiteboards, vibrant work areas and well-stocked libraries, offering a wide range of reading material and a quiet place for study and research. We have large practical workspaces outside the classrooms which are used for a range of lessons and activities including art, design and technology, ICT and group teaching. They have three playgrounds (including separate infant and junior adventure playgrounds), a woodland area, a vegetable patch and class-sized greenhouse, a Peace Garden, an all-weather sports surface and two grassed playing fields.
