Project Overview

Genfit partnered with renewable technology leaders SOLARWATT and STIEBEL ELTRON to deliver one of the UK’s first fully integrated renewable energy systems for a residential property in North Wales. This forward-thinking project combines solar PV, battery storage, and an air-source heat pump under one intelligent energy management platform. The goal was to maximise on-site generation, reduce reliance on the grid, and create a smart, low-carbon home with exceptional energy efficiency.

System Design & Components

The system features a 9 kWp SOLARWATT solar array, connected to a 6 kW inverter and 10.4 kWh battery storage system, providing reliable generation and storage throughout the year. A STIEBEL ELTRON WPL-A 07 air-source heat pump with a HSBC 300 hot-water cylinder was installed to deliver renewable heating and hot water.

These technologies are seamlessly integrated through SOLARWATT’s Manager Flex and STIEBEL ELTRON’s EM Trend software, which intelligently manage generation, battery discharge, and heat pump operation in real time. The result is a highly efficient and self-regulating system that prioritises solar energy use and reduces grid imports.

Financial Overview

The figures clearly demonstrate the long-term financial value of investing in integrated renewable systems. The combination of solar PV, battery storage, and heat pump technology provides ongoing protection against rising energy prices while delivering strong returns over the system’s lifetime.

Performance & Environmental Benefits

The 9 kWp solar PV system achieves an estimated annual usable solar production of 8,030 kWh, offsetting a significant portion of the homeowner’s energy demand. This reduces carbon emissions by approximately 1.55 tonnes per year — equivalent to planting 71 trees annually.

Within the first quarter of operation, the homeowner reported an 83% reduction in their electricity bill, paying just £82.05 compared to the same period the previous year. The property’s EPC rating also improved from B (82) to A (105), confirming its enhanced energy performance.

Smart Energy Integration

The system is designed to synchronise generation, storage, and heating demand — ensuring solar energy is always used where it’s needed most. The smart control platform even uses weather forecasting to adapt charging and heating schedules, optimising performance automatically.

This innovative approach aligns with Genfit’s mission of “Making Energy Simple” — helping homeowners get the most from renewable technology without complexity.

Genfit's Role

Genfit led the project from start to finish — including design, specification, installation, commissioning, and post-handover support. The team worked closely with SOLARWATT and STIEBEL ELTRON to ensure the system was perfectly matched to the property’s needs and operated as a single, integrated energy solution.

After installation, Genfit provided detailed handover training and app setup support, ensuring the homeowner could easily monitor performance and understand how to get the most from their renewable system.
