Powering Christleton High School with Clean, Renewable Energy

Christleton Sports Centre, near Chester, is part of the BRIO chain of leisure facilities, and a joint use venue with Christleton High School.

As part of a collaboration with CCEL (Chester Community Energy Ltd), CWAC (Cheshire West & Chester Council) and BRIO leisure, GenFit installed a 59.94 kWp Solar PV Array on the sports hall roof.

The Solar PV system was community funded via CCEL’s Co-operative share offer with the leisure centre purchasing the generated energy, at a reduced rate than from their current electricity provider, from CCEL through a power purchase agreement (PPA).

The array is projected to generate approximately 50.65 MWh of energy and provide a saving of roughly 14.045 tonnes of CO2 per year. The vast majority of energy generated by the PV array will be used on-site due to the large base load of the facility.
